Japan-born Mai Tamura began her piano studies at the early age of 4. In her 20s, she moved to the US to study Film Scoring at Berklee College of Music, where she was an active pianist and participated in more than 30 concerts varying in style from jazz to classical music and from solo recitals to playing with a full orchestra.
She moved to Los Angeles to work as an orchestrator, pianist, copyist, composer for accomplished documentary film composer David B. Steinberg.
Their work was featured in films at the numerous festivals including Sundance. “The Last Beekeeper” received an Emmy Award as the Best Documentary Feature in 2010.
After a decade she became an independent composer, producer and pianist, returned to Japan, and has been collaborating with Syn since 2012.
