The Shangri-La Tokyo is one of the only hotels in the world to commission an original sonic branding package. The goal was to create an environment where guests can leave behind the hustle and bustle of the reverberating city, as they step into the hotel’s tranquil and serene urban sanctuary, all senses get gently stimulated to create the sensation of ultimate comfort and relaxation. We did this by creating a discreet, soothing, and ethereal theme song in line with the Shangri-La Hotel's Tokyo mission and values. The objective was to use the language of music and subtle seasonal sounds to transport Shangri-La guests into a landscape of thoughts, emotions, and experiences, enhancing their stay. We designed variations of the main theme song called “Little Piece of Heaven” for the hotel entrance, elevators, guest rooms, suites, telephone hold music, and hotel cars. We update the music to complement each season, something which is of great cultural importance in Japan.
