To celebrate the New Year, Syn worked with long term friends and collaborators, North, to design a greeting message and custom labels for Sake bottles. The artwork was generated using a custom code that harnesses image generation logic to create shapes triggered by audio, which was recorded by Syn’s CEO & Creative Director, Nick Wood, at Oirase Gorge in Aomori, Japan.
The water from this source is the same as the water used in Syn’s custom Sake. The program also uses images of Lake Towada to colour the shapes, selecting colours at a rate driven by the audio from field recordings around the area.
The code behind this process uses a ‘double perlin noise map’, similar to the function used in video games to represent water. The colour derived from the image are then transformed and refined based on principles from Sanzo Wada’s dictionary of colour combinations to create a final image.
