‘Provocateurs Welcome’, is how luxury hotel Mondrian Singapore Duxton entices guests in its latest brand film, produced by Shanghai-based Stig & Xi, with original music by Syn.
Long-time collaborators Nick Wood and Nils Andersson (Stig & Xi) seized the opportunity to compose an original song for this project, despite a tight turnaround and specific creative brief. Nick Wood was not phased, “actually, I like working on under a tight schedule because it means we have to make a decision quickly it’s always more energetic, more exciting, to get some done quickly. Sometimes projects are too long, too many revisions, and too many opinions and re-changes, projects can then get lost. One week was good to get this done.”
Working with UK based vocalist, Alexina, with lyrics by Benji Compston from Syn London, Nick Wood composed and co-produced the track with Tokyo-based Alan Mawdsley, incorporating pop-disco and techno influences into the track. Nick explains the creative process, "I thought Alexina's vibe and style were a good match for the vocals. For the lyrics, I asked Benji to write catchy and energetic lyrics that reflect the brand. We want people to hear the song it go out that’s super cool and it has to sound like if they would curate music for the lobby or for the bar they would play the song in the hotel. I want it to feel authentic. People seem to like the film and have a positive reaction."
‘Do It Our Way’ is a celebration of the rebellious spirit of this brand film, encouraging free-thinkers’ self-expression by the seductive pool-side of Singapore’s Mondrian Hotel. This collaboration sees Syn explore a new market in Singapore, the first of many as Nick expands, "Singapore is a creative hub in Southeast Asia. It’s a small creative community but some great boutique agencies down there. Good region to work with because it’s a gateway to Southeast Asia."
