Syn Tokyo music producer, Kazuyuki Haga, has worked on projects across Advertising, TV and Experiential. For this latest project, Haga provided music to accompany ‘The Kitamura Chronicle’, an interview video featuring prominent actor Takumi Kitamura starring in Netflix’s “Yu Yu Hakusho”. Just a week after its global release in December 2023, ‘Yu Yu Hakusho’ achieved a historic feat as the first Japanese series to top the Netflix weekly Global Top 10 (Non-english Series), ranking second in the All-Language series. This battle anime series is based on a much-loved manga series in Japan.
Working with Tokyo-based production company, Geek Pictures, and Netflix Japan, Haga focussed on providing music that complements the video by looking to Syn’s music library for inspiration, selecting six tracks by composers Nick Wood and Jordan Teal.
The interview video includes discussions about ‘Yu Yu Hakusho’, as well as glimpses into Kitamura’s personality. Haga emphasized the importance of choosing music for the interview video that highlights the interviewee without overshadowing the content or being overly emotional. “Finding the perfect track from a vast selection is challenging, and it requires a discerning approach to narrow down the proposals. The moment the director is pleased is the most rewarding for me,” Haga says.
